costus spectabilis

The Costus spectabilis has got to be one of the most unusual of costuses. Hailing from from Africa, this costus can produce huge succulent leaves that lie absolutely flat on the ground while the flowers are showy bright yellow. The plant has a natural dormancy and produces long snake-like rhizomes. It is reputedly one of the more difficult costuses to handle.
